August 15th, two days before school started, Sammy came up stairs to tell me there was some water on the floor in the hallway downstairs. He wasn't kidding! The carpet was soaked!!
It went all the way down the hallway, into Sam's room a bit, and under the stairs.
I called Spencer, who was in pre-school meetings and he came home. We soaked every towel we owned cleaning it up.
It even got the carpet at the bottom of the stairs.
We figured out that our toilet, which runs all the time, had gotten clogged and then flooded things.
We called our insurance company and they sent a clean up crew to clean it out. Because the water had come from a toilet, anything it touched had to be torn out.
So out went the toilet, the vanity, a few feet of drywall everywhere, and carpet wherever it had been wet.
The water had even gotten into the family room, though you couldn't tell without their cool tools.
They brought in super fans and dehumidifiers.
They created plastic walls and this was our basement for a good 4-5 days.
This is the view at the bottom of the stairs.
It was a nutty few days and will be quite the project to repair. Ah, homeownership!
