Lucy turned 3 at the end of May. What an interesting age 3 is! She amazes me almost daily. Sometimes that is a good thing and sometimes it's not! It's been especially neat to watch her language ability take off. She can reason more and figure things out. She can remember things really well now too. Whenever we drive by the school by our house she points and says excitedly, "Mommy! That's my class!" I think she is destined to love school.
She loves to learn. I made some toys for her by writing letters on the top of milk carton lids. She uses them to copy words I've written on paper. It's so fun to watch her get excited when she "makes a word." She also loves to play pretend now. She will spend an entire hour setting up a "picnic" or a "party" for her stuffed animals.
Lucy's favorites at 3 include: movies (from the library-we usually go once a week) - Little Einsteins, Dora, Wonder Pets, and Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, graham cracker cookies, playing with balls, dolls, dress ups, and kitchen stuff, drawing.
She has started to draw people and it is the cutest thing in the world. I took child development classes in high school and college and I learned all about the stages of language development and how that shows up in their drawings and writings but it is something else entirely to see your own child do it.
We took her to the doctor for her yearly appointment and she is pretty average. She is 31 pounds 2 ounces (54%) and 36.5 inches tall (35%).
We also took her to the dentist last week and she has 3 more little cavities :(. Lucy has been struggling with sleep lately - fighting us to go down for naps and fighting us to go down at bedtime so we decided to give up the nap, much as it saddens me. So far though, bedtime has been going a lot more smoothly.
Lucy is like most 3 year olds - learning and wanting to be independent but still clinging to Mommy and Daddy. It makes life a bit dramatic at times but also incredible at others!
