Sprinklers!

Sometimes a project sounds super complicated and a lot of work and then you find it isn't. Sometimes a project sounds super complicated and a lot of work and it is. This was one of the second kind!
Spencer got started on the project mid July.  The first step was to find the Stop and Waste.  This is usually marked and obvious to find. Not so in our special yard.  After a couple of days digging along the sprinkler lines that were already in the yard, breaking a pipe and having water spray everywhere just before dark, learning how to turn the main water line off, and continuing to probe around in the dark, he finally found it.  It was literally a couple of inches away from the main water line and only a couple of inches under the grass. This was good because it meant we didn't have to install anything but it was incredible annoying to have spent so much time on it when it should have been clearly marked.

His next step (after repairing the broken line) was to build that thing in the first photo. I can't remember what it's called! He spent many an evening, into the night working, hence the lamp shining on the ground!

After he got that installed, a neighbor came over and helped dig trenches out in our side and back yards and then it was time to lay pipe.

The first pipe he bought wasn't correctly marked at the store and so he got to start over with that fun contraption at the top. But once the correct supplies were here, it was like Lego's!

Sammy liked helping out when he could.

The trees out front made for some interesting challenges and slowed up the process a bit.

It was pretty exciting to see the first couple of sprinkler heads in!

Spencer spray painted as he went so he'd know which pipe went to which zone.

The kids had a good time helping dig out the trenches as well.

Daddy's big helpers!

Our neighborhood used to be a rock quarry. It is quite evident why when you try to dig a hole in our yard! We could have built a house for a little pig with all the rocks Spencer dug out!

And this was the last thing he installed! We have the sprinklers on the side and back all installed, tested, and ready for spring. There is another line for the gardens that is mostly done. And there were already lines in the front that will need to be tested, fixed, and hooked up in the spring. Oh, and then we'll need some new grass! Home ownership sure can be challenging at times!
