Yellowstone & Cody Trip, Part 1

The last week of June we packed up the new van, bought a DVD player for it (best decision ever!), and headed to Yellowstone and Cody, Wyoming for a week.

We took our time getting there, stopping along the way in parks in small towns for breakfast and lunch and driving around Rexburg to see Spencer's old stomping ground. We arrived around dinner time, took a few minutes to see Old Faithful go off, and set up camp.

Sleeping was... interesting. Eliza is very used to her own space and she didn't do so well in the tent with all of us. This is how it ended up most mornings, with Spencer on the floor.

Our first full day there we spent in the geyser area of the park. We signed up for the Young Scientist program and had a lot of fun.

The program has you explore the question of whether or not geysers are alive.

We have a picture on this same bridge from the last time we were here - when Lucy was in the backpack at age 14 months. Our family has changed a bit since then!

We got to see Old Faithful again but from a different view. It was still pretty impressive.

What a handsome guy! :)

As a part of the program, we were able to check out a backpack full of tools to help the kids explore the area. It was cute watching Lucy hike with it on her back.

I don't remember the name of this geyser but it was fun to be so close to one going off.

Bees at work!

One of the tools in the backpack was a temperature gun. You point and shoot and it tells you how hot things are. We had a lot of fun with it!

This was the furthest the kids hiked - to Morning Glory Pool. We were really proud of how far they were willing to go.

My babe and I. :)

Examining the bacterial areas.

The kids hiked about 3 miles the first day and we rewarded them with ice cream.

It was a great way to start off the trip but we were so tired that night!
