Yellowstone & Cody Trip, Part 2

On Wednesday, our second full day in the park, we explored an area neither Spencer or I had ever been to - the east part.

Our first stop was along the Yellowstone River at some rapids.

The kids liked feeling the cold water and seeing a bunch of fish. Trout swim upstream here in July and August to lay eggs and there were a few early birds, I mean fish!

The rapids.

There's nothing like water to draw a kid's attention!

The wildflowers were beautiful here!

The staircase to heaven! Or at least back to our car!

From there we headed up to the Grand Canyon area and the brink of the upper falls.

What a cool spot to be at! You could literally look straight down on them. It was a bit disconcerting but neat.

From there we went to a Ranger talk for the kids. We learned all about antlers and horns and stuff like that.

The talk was the last requirement for the kids to earn their Junior Ranger badges. It was fun learning about the different aspects of the park with them.

After that, and a much needed rest time, we checked out the lower falls. They are huge!

We didn't go to the brink of them but got some pretty incredible views from an outlook.

We were also able to look the other way, down into the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone. We also saw some Osprey and their nest. It was pretty cool.

Aren't they good looking?!

On the way to and from the Grand Canyon area, we passed through the Hayden Valley where we found a ton of Bison! They were everywhere and we loved watching them.

When we were almost to our campsite we saw a buck elk along the side of the road too! It was so pretty!

Back at camp we roasted hot dogs and marshmallows for dinner. Camping with the kids was fun but a ton of work. Lucy freaked out about mosquitoes a ton and we were constantly worried about them getting hurt in the fire.

It was a fun experience and worth the work though.
