Sammy 13 Months

Here is our little monkey doing what he likes best - climbing!

Sammy has really learned how to walk this month.  At the beginning of the month, he was just walking a few steps and then crawling the rest of the way to his destination.

Then one Sunday, he spent some time at church playing with a boy 2 months older who was walking like crazy.  Ever since then he's walked more and more.  It was like he thought, "If he can do it, maybe I can too!"

He also likes to climb.  His favorite places right now are the bathroom sink (he climbs Lucy's stool to get there) and the kitchen table.

We have to be much more aware now than we were before - pushing in chairs, closing bathroom doors, etc...!

Lucy 3 Years Old

Lucy turned 3 at the end of May.  What an interesting age 3 is! She amazes me almost daily.  Sometimes that is a good thing and sometimes it's not!  It's been especially neat to watch her language ability take off.  She can reason more and figure things out.  She can remember things really well now too.  Whenever we drive by the school by our house she points and says excitedly, "Mommy! That's my class!"  I think she is destined to love school.

She loves to learn.  I made some toys for her by writing letters on the top of milk carton lids.  She uses them to copy words I've written on paper.  It's so fun to watch her get excited when she "makes a word."  She also loves to play pretend now.  She will spend an entire hour setting up a "picnic" or a "party" for her stuffed animals.

Lucy's favorites at 3 include: movies (from the library-we usually go once a week) - Little Einsteins, Dora, Wonder Pets, and Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, graham cracker cookies, playing with balls, dolls, dress ups, and kitchen stuff, drawing.

She has started to draw people and it is the cutest thing in the world.  I took child development classes in high school and college and I learned all about the stages of language development and how that shows up in their drawings and writings but it is something else entirely to see your own child do it.

We took her to the doctor for her yearly appointment and she is pretty average.  She is 31 pounds 2 ounces (54%) and 36.5 inches tall (35%).

We also took her to the dentist last week and she has 3 more little cavities :(.  Lucy has been struggling with sleep lately - fighting us to go down for naps and fighting us to go down at bedtime so we decided to give up the nap, much as it saddens me.  So far though, bedtime has been going a lot more smoothly.

Lucy is like most 3 year olds - learning and wanting to be independent but still clinging to Mommy and Daddy.  It makes life a bit dramatic at times but also incredible at others!

The Birthday Girl!

My baby girl turned 3 last week.  It's been such a fun year to watch her learn and grow.

For her birthday we kept things low key.  I let her pick breakfast (french toast) and open a present (color wonder coloring book) before church.  At church they gave her a little gift and then later that afternoon we celebrated as a family.

My neighbor made this awesome butterfly cake which she loved and my mom came over to watch her open presents and eat cake.

My mom gave her a new outfit, an art kit, and a kid's digital camera.  She loves it!

We gave her a book and a basketball hoop.  We still need to get her a ball but this one works for now.  Then we went to my Grandma's house for dinner.  The next day we went to my dad's house for dinner.

We are currently in the middle of birthday season.  Between Spencer's side and mine we have 9 birthday's within 16 days.  The first set is at the end of May: 27: Nephews Austin & Joshua 28: Brother Tyler 29: Lucy and 30: Dad.  The second set is the beginning of June: 6: Me 7: Sister-in-law Valerie 11: Sister-in-law Julie 12: Spencer.

So on my Dad's birthday, we got together and celebrated everyone on that side.  My grandparents came up and gave Lucy a super cute Cinderella card that plays recordings of her voice, some stickers, and cash for her bank account.  My dad and Patti gave her two new cute dresses, a purse, and a necklace.  Unfortunately, I didn't take any pictures there :( .  She had such a great time celebrating her birthday and spending time with family.  I'm so grateful to have so many people that love and support her.  Happy birthday big girl!
