Sammy's 1st Haircut!

Monday morning, at the bank, I was complimented on my "cute little girl." No, Lucy was with Daddy.  She was talking about Sammy. 

I'd been contemplating cutting his hair anyway, but that kind of moved it up a bit on my to do list!  I loved his little curls, most of the time.  They were either beautiful or super fuzzy and clown-like. 

Spencer needed a haircut anyway and we wanted Sammy to get used to how the clippers sounded and felt so we cut Spencer's hair first and let Sammy watch and hold the clippers to see that it wasn't scary. 

Then it was Sammy's turn.  He wasn't scared of the clippers but he wasn't a fan of having to sit still. 

Spencer held him and we were able to get the top pretty well, leaving him with a mullet for a few minutes.  We had to take a picture of that! 

Then, after a bit more cajoling, we got the rest of him.  He wasn't too happy with us so no smiles for the "after pics." 

He looks so grown up now!

4th of July!

We had a great 4th (and 2nd and 5th) of July this year.  The Saturday before, on the 2nd, our neighborhood did a movie in the park. 

Sorry for the horrible pictures in this post!  The first two were taken at night and focusing was next to impossible but I had to include them anyway! We packed up some lawn chairs, blankets, and popcorn and headed down the street. 

The kids had a great time watching tangled with others from our neighborhood. 

Then on the 4th, we started out the day with a little softball.  A bunch of friends from church got together and played on the "field" behind the church.  The field has seen better days, that is for sure! Sammy slept on a blanket the whole time we were there, which was actually kind of nice because it meant we could both play at the same time.  

Mid-afternoon, we had a few families over for a BBQ at our place.  It was a good excuse to clean our house and use our deck again this year.  It was fun to hang out and play games with family friends. 

That evening we went over to a friend's parents' house (the Manns) to watch fireworks.  Brook's dad was in the military for 32 years and loves fireworks and patriotic holidays.  He put on a show that lasted over an hour, with aerial fireworks and music blasting.  It was a lot of fun. 

The next day we went to the Bees game.  (Lucy was real cooperative for photos that night.) We enjoyed the baseball and beautiful weather and the kids enjoyed the playground and "bouncing place." 

Isn't summer great?!

Sammy 14 Months

Sammy at 14 months is a hoot! He has really taken off with his walking.  So much so, that looking over the photos I took, I could only get him to sit still long enough when he was eating! It's so cute to watch him amble around.

He is also so friendly.  We took these photos at the Bees game on July 5th and he was so fun to watch there.  We were sitting on the grassy outfield and he just walked right up to the family sitting nearby us that had a couple of older boys.  He made friends and by the end of the night they were chasing him up and down the hill.

Another fun thing he did this month is stick out his tongue all the time.  We would quote this line, "Quickly! Grab on to our tongues. Blech!," and he would stick out his tongue.  Cutest thing ever!

We've been working on his sleep habits (as usual!) and they are improving (knock on wood!).  We've also been working on weaning.  I think Sammy would nurse 'til he was 10 if we let him.  We got him down to twice a day with goals of weaning completely by the end of July.  He also discovered a new love - blueberries.  This kid could eat them all day long if we let him.  I call Sammy our little fruit fly.  When in doubt of what to feed him, give him fruit.  He'll be happy.  He also loves to sit and read books and empty kitchen drawers.  He is a handful!
